About Us

Our Purpose:

“Delta Sigma Pi is a professional fraternity organized to foster the study of business in universities; to encourage scholarship, social activity and the association of students for their mutual advancement by research and practice; to promote closer affiliation between the commercial world and students of commerce, and to further a higher standard of commercial ethics and culture and the civic and commercial welfare of the community.”

Our History:

Delta Sigma Pi was founded at the School of Commerce, Accounts and Finance at New York University on November 7, 1907. Celebrating its centennial anniversary this year, Delta Sigma Pi now has more than 180 collegiate chapters across the country and a membership of over 200,000.

Professional Activities

As a professional fraternity we strive to ensure that our members gain experience in all areas of professionalism. Our professional activities teach members professional dress, networking, resume writing tips, interviewing techniques, and a variety of other essential skills.
Last year some of our professional activities included a wine tasting, mock interview workshop, tough interview questions workshop, and an employer panel with representatives from Quicken Loans, Total Quality Logistics, KPMG, and Owens Corning. We have also had speakers give presentations on a variety of business topics including “Women in Business” and “Evaluating and Negotiating Job Offers.”

Community Service

Members of Delta Sigma Pi work together each year to support causes at both the local and national levels. Last fall members took part in a 36- hour “Teeter-Totter-A-Thon” to support the American Diabetes Association, raising over $500. In the spring members participated in the American Heart Walk and earned over $1000 to donate to the American Heart Association.
Throughout the year we also participate in smaller-scale events to aide local causes. We hold canned food drives, visit area retirement homes, and collect money to donate to the Toledo Zoo. A number of our members volunteer with Junior Achievement to teach area children about community and commerce.

Fundraising

Delta Sigma Pi is an entirely self-funded organization, which is why fundraising is so important to our chapter. To raise money, members of the fraternity have worked at Cedar Point amusement park and in the concession stands at Cleveland Browns Stadium, hosted a wine tasting and silent auction, and designed and sold tee-shirts to the BGSU community. This year we are very excited for the grand opening of our new coffee business, The Bean Counter, which will give our members hands on experience in starting and operating a business.

Leadership Development

Leadership development programs unique to Delta Sigma Pi are the LEAD (Leadership and Excellence Academies for Deltasigs) schools and conferences. These programs are held at different locations throughout the country and are open to members of Delta Sigma Pi from many universities. At these programs individuals have the opportunity to network with other fraternity members and are able to enhance their personal, professional, leadership, and fraternal development.

Other Activities

The aforementioned activities are just a sampling of the wide array of events in which our members participate. Members take part in intramural sports, organize activities with our alumni, attend formal events, and work to recruit new members from the College of Business. All of these activities allow our members to grow into incredibly well-rounded individuals.
