FAQ

What is Delta Sigma Pi?

Delta Sigma Pi is a professional fraternity organized to foster the study of business in universities; to encourage scholarship, social activity and the association of students for their mutual advancement by research and practice; to promote closer affiliation between the commercial world and students of commerce, and to further a higher standard of commercial ethics and culture and the civic and commercial welfare of the community.

Delta Sigma Pi was founded in 1907 at New York University: School of Commerce, Accounts and Finance by Harold Valentine Jacobs, Alexander Frank Makay, Alfred Moysello and Henry Albert Tienken. Today, across the United State, more than 250 chapters and nearly 200,000 members support the goals and ideals of the Fraternity.

How do I join Delta Sigma Pi?

Delta Sigma Pi extends bids to individuals twice a year, at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. The organization will hold information open houses and other recruitment events to allow prospective members to acquaint themselves with the fraternity. Interested individuals are encouraged to attend these sessions and sign up for an interview to be considered for membership.

Who can join Delta Sigma Pi?

Delta Sigma Pi is open to anyone pursuing a degree in the College of Business Administration, Apparel Merchandising and Product Development (with a marketing minor), or Sports Management. A 2.5 cumulative GPA and a class standing of second-semester freshman or later is also required.

How big of a time commitment is joining Delta Sigma Pi?

The time commitment during the pledging semester is similar to that of a three credit hour class. If a pledge becomes initiated as a brother of the fraternity the required events include attending chapter each week and attending a few designated events throughout the semester. However, members are encouraged to attend as many events as they are able to in order to better themselves and the organization.

How is Delta Sigma Pi different from any other Greek organization?

The main difference between Delta Sigma Pi and a social fraternity/sorority is that DSP is a professional organization within the College of Business Administration. While DSP takes parts in a wide variety of activities, all members are pursuing majors related to business. Another major difference is that DSP is co-ed, as opposed to an all-male or all female fraternity/sorority.

How much are dues?

Dues are voted on each semester; however, dues for brothers are generally around $85.00 per semester.

How can I prepare for my interview with Delta Sigma Pi?

Because Delta Sigma Pi is a professional fraternity, our membership interviews are very similar to job interviews. To prepare for an interview an individual may want to research commonly asked interview questions, in order to anticipate possible questions. The most important thing to remember is to be yourself! We conduct these interviews to get to know prospective members better before bids are extended for membership.

* Delta Sigma Pi has a very strict risk management policy that prohibits hazing. We aim to ensure that the pledging semester is a productive and enjoyable process for everyone involved.
